Schools In Guatemala
The Guatemala Government provides teachers at local schools. However, families of students are required to pay nominal school fees, all school supplies, such as pencils, pens, paper, notebooks, and books, etc. Our Student Scholarship fund is used for students (K - University) who are unable to attend school because their families cannot afford to pay these school expenses. Scholarships are given to children who live in an area where the "Guatemala Mission Project" has completed service projects; such as installing high efficiency wood stoves, building projects including medical and dental clinics and school classrooms. Students in need of scholarship are identified by their teachers and School Director. Parents can also contact a local "Guatemala Mission Project Leader" regarding their need.
The local Guatemala Mission Project Leader meets with the parents and the students the beginning of the school year to discuss their parental and student commitments to ensure school attendance and the money usage for school expenses. Scholarship money is dispersed on monthly basis to ensure the family and students are following through with their commitments. The Project Leader oversees the School Scholarship Funds, which can be used for the school fees, supplies, books, etc.; and sometimes for the purchase of clothing and shoes, if any funds are left over.
